Punjab Reduces Driving Test Retake Time

Punjab Reduces Driving Test Retake Time

In a bid to streamline the driving license acquisition process, the Inspector General of Punjab has introduced a series of new regulations. These updates are set to provide considerable ease for individuals who do not pass their driving tests on the first attempt.

Reduced Interval for Test Retakes

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, has announced a major reform affecting driving test procedures in Punjab. Candidates who do not succeed in their road tests will now be permitted to retake the exam after only 15 days, significantly shortening the previous waiting period of 42 days. This adjustment extends the previously applied policy for failing the sign test.

Accelerated Test Reexamination

The changes to the Punjab Motor Vehicle Rules 1969 are designed to hasten the testing process. Candidates who do not pass either the road or sign test can now schedule a retake after a mere 15-day interval, reflecting the authorities' commitment to a more efficient licensing procedure.

Increased Transparency through Video Documentation

To promote fairness and ensure adherence to standards, all driving tests, including both road and sign exams, will now be recorded. This initiative aims to uphold transparency and ensure that all candidates are assessed according to the same criteria.

Punjab Highway Patrol Now Authorized to Issue Licenses

In an additional update, the IG Punjab has granted the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) the authority to issue driving licenses. A recent notification confirmed that eight PHP centers across the province are now responsible for processing and distributing licenses. The PHP Regional Offices in Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and other designated areas will manage the entire licensing operation.
