Punjab's New Digital License System - Fees Surge upto 500%
In a significant move towards digitalization, the Punjab government has introduced online renewal for driving licenses, embracing a more convenient and efficient approach. Notably, this initiative follows the earlier announcement allowing citizens to renew their learner permits through online channels.
Renewal Options and Online System
According to a tweet from the Lahore City Traffic Police, starting January 1, 2024, individuals can renew their licenses online for durations of one, three, five, and ten years. The introduction of a new digital system, NET, marks the replacement of the outdated 20-year-old Oracle system. With this upgrade, applicants can easily download both local and international e-licenses, eliminating the need for physical driving tests.

International Driving Licenses and Online Payment Methods
International driving licenses will remain valid for three years, providing global mobility for license holders. Moreover, the online learner permit fee can be conveniently paid through popular digital payment platforms such as EasyPaisa, JazzCash, and 1 Line. The announcement emphasizes the importance of timely renewal, cautioning that driving without a valid license or with an expired one can result in a Rs. 2,000 fine and legal consequences.
Revised Annual License Fees Effective January 1, 2024
In a recent development, the Punjab government has announced an increase in annual fees for learner permits, renewal, and new driving licenses, effective January 1, 2024. The Lahore City Traffic Police's Twitter handle disclosed that the fees will now be collected annually, departing from the previous five-year cycle. Citizens are urged to apply for their licenses before the deadline to avoid any inconvenience.
Fee Structure for Various License Types
To provide clarity on the revised fee structure, the Lahore City Traffic Police shared a comprehensive list:
License Type | 5-year Fee (PKR) | New Annual Fee (PKR) |
