Samsung New Car Battery

Samsung SDI stepped into the game and they developed the multifunctional battery pack, which is displayed at Frankfurt Motor Show this week. The battery is solution to increase the range of the electric vehicles. The company has made the effort to score the large share of growing automotive market.

Different Approach
Tesla adopted different approach and they are using the individuals to the small cylindrical li-ion battery cells in each of the pack. The company has made the strategy and it is failed to inspire the auto manufacturing companies but the small electric startups got this battery design.
The well established automakers have not changed the designs but the newer starts are into innovation and have worked with some battery manufacturers like LG chem and Samsung SDI.

New ‘2170’ Format
They have developed new cylindrical cells for the automotive solutions. The latest battery cell of Tesla in model 3 is new ‘2170’ format and it is manufactured at Gigafactory of Tesla. On the other hand, Nissan and other companies with LEAF and GM with recent Chevy Bolt BV are used large prismatic cells in the electric vehicle battery packs. Samsung made its own ‘2170’ battery cell and it could be back in the competition with Tesla. They have developed technology and now claim that it can reach very high energy density with the use of those cells in new coming modules.
Variable Batteries
Multifunctional battery pack of Samsung SDI attracted the attention and the users change number of modules and they want to place books on shelf. If 20 modules are installed in premium car, it can go up to 600 to 700 kilometers. The best EV, Tesla Model S can manage 419 kilometers.
If 10 to 12 modules mount on regular sedan, the range becomes high as 300 kilometers. This pack is expected to get attention from automakers. They design the car with variable mileage on how many modules of single pack are installed. They did not share further information related to the new technology.
