SsangYong Transforms into KGM Motors
South Korean automaker SsangYong has undergone a significant transformation, emerging as KGM Motors after being rescued from bankruptcy by KG Group, a prominent chemical and steel company. The rebranding not only marks a pivotal moment in the company's history but also introduces a refined brand color scheme, replacing the current white and blue palette with a sleek white and black combination.
A Shift Towards Full-Mobility Business
Under the umbrella of its new worldwide corporate identity, KGM Motors is making a strategic shift from its traditional Car manufacturing-driven business model. The company is steadfast in its vision to evolve into a new-generation full-mobility business, marking a departure from its historical roots. This corporate metamorphosis signifies a bold step forward as KGM Global rebrands for the first time in 35 years, positioning itself as a brand ready for the future.
Evolution of KGM Global:
Founded in January 1954 as Ha Dong-Hwan Automobile Manufacturing, the company underwent several name changes, becoming Dong-A Motors in 1977 and ultimately transforming into SsangYong Motor Company in 1988. In 2022, the brand faced financial challenges and was sold to the electric vehicle startup Edition Motors. However, a subsequent bankruptcy led to KGM Global acquiring a majority stake in the company in 2023, paving the way for the current rebranding initiative.
Expanding Horizons with New Models
In line with its revamped identity, KGM Motors has ambitious plans for expansion in 2024. The launch of the Torres compact SUV, available with both petrol and electric powertrain options, is set to diversify the company's model lineup. Furthermore, enthusiasts can anticipate the arrival of a new electric pick-up truck in 2025, signaling KGM Motors' commitment to innovation and sustainability in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
