Suzuki's Bike Production on Hold Again

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has taken a significant step to address its current inventory challenges. The company has decided to suspend motorcycle assembly for a period of 16 days starting from July 31 until August 15. This move comes in response to a lack of inventory, which has been a pressing concern for the company.

Potential Price Increase and Production Resumption

During this halt in production, Suzuki is closely monitoring the local currency instability. Depending on the market situation upon resuming production, the automaker may consider implementing motorcycle price adjustments to mitigate the impact of the current economic fluctuations.

The Official Notice:

A Series of Production Hurdles

This is not the first time Pak Suzuki Motor Company has faced production disruptions. Prior to this decision, the company had already halted production from June 22 to July 15, resulting in a non-production period of 24 days. These successive halts in production have significantly affected Suzuki's ability to meet demand and maintain stable sales figures.

In early June, Suzuki informed Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif about the distressing condition of the automobile industry, stating:

Here, we would like to bring to kind notice that PSMC is going through the very worst of times in its history of about 40 years. The company has already suffered huge losses of Rs. 12.9 billion in the first quarter of the current year due to current economic uncertainties. The company is also observing many “No Production Days” every month throughout the year. In addition to this, our dealers and vendors are also suffering very badly due to the current economic and business situation, as some of them are already closed and many more are on the bring of closure.

Challenging Times for the Auto Industry

As the largest automaker in Pakistan, Suzuki's sales and revenue have taken a severe hit due to the intermittent production pauses. Adding to the challenges, recent reports indicate that the government has increased taxes on all locally assembled vehicles without easing import restrictions. The combination of these factors has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the future of the auto industry in the country.
