The Upcoming Facelift for Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage, a standout in the South Korean automaker's global lineup, is currently cruising through its 5th generation, introduced in June 2021. Fresh reports now hint at Kia's ongoing efforts towards the development of a facelift for this popular model.

Testing Prototypes at Hyundai-Kia R&D Center

Inside the Hyundai and Kia Research and Development Center, prototypes of the 5th-generation Sportage facelift are already undergoing testing. The first camouflaged test mules are expected to hit the real world in early 2024. It's worth noting that the Sportage's sister product, the Hyundai Tucson, has already undergone a facelift.

Notable features include new headlamps with a T-shaped Daytime Running Light (DRL) layout flanking the quad-LED main beam assembly. Changes to the front grille, lower bumper, and wider character lines on the bonnet are also evident.

Revamped Interior with Cutting-Edge Technology

Building on the recent releases of the Sorento and Carnival, the redesigned Sportage is expected to incorporate the third-screen curved glass technology. Anticipated additions include the latest safety and tech features, on-demand functionalities, and a new EV9-inspired steering wheel. A pair of 12.3-inch curved displays featuring a cNCC Infotainment system is set to enhance the interior experience.

Powertrain Tweaks and Upgrades

While the powertrain is expected to undergo minimal changes for enhanced efficiency, a notable update includes the introduction of a higher-density battery pack in the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) variant, extending the electric range. Additionally, the 8-speed automatic transmission is set to replace the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).

Debut and Global Rollout

Enthusiasts can anticipate the debut of the 5th-gen Kia Sportage facelift in the latter half of 2024, starting in its home market of South Korea. The Kia Sportage 2024, available in two-wheelbase options, will likely begin reaching global markets towards the end of 2024 or early 2025, catering to diverse preferences in international, North American, South Korean, European, South African, and most Right-Hand Drive (RHD) markets.
