Initial reports suggested a significant $5.49 per barrel reduction in global oil prices, raising expectations for a substantial cut in petroleum product prices within Pakistan. The air was filled with anticipation, with rumors circulating about a possible Rs. 13 drop in petrol prices and a more substantial Rs. 15 per liter decrease in diesel prices.

Official Announcement: New Petrol Price Unveiled

The government has now officially revealed its decision, considering global market fluctuations and the Pakistani Rupee's performance against the US Dollar. Effective from December 16, 2023, the new petrol price in Pakistan is set at Rs. 267.34, marking a considerable Rs. 14 reduction from the previous rate of Rs. 281.34. Simultaneously, diesel experiences a noteworthy price drop, now standing at Rs. 276.21 compared to its prior rate of Rs. 289.71—a significant Rs. 13.50 decrease.
