Toll Prices Go Up Again – NHA Hikes Up to 50%

Toll Prices Go Up Again – NHA Hikes Up to 50%
In yet another blow to commuters across the country, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has increased toll charges once more — the second NHA toll hike in less than three months. Effective from April 1, this sudden change has triggered public backlash, especially from those already battling high inflation and unstable economic conditions.
Sharp Increase in NHA Toll Rates
The latest NHA toll revision shows a steep rise ranging from 15% to 50%, depending on the type of vehicle and route. For example, cars that previously paid Rs. 60 will now be charged Rs. 70. Vans and jeeps now pay Rs. 150, up from Rs. 100. Buses will cost commuters Rs. 250, up from Rs. 200. Even trucks aren't spared — 2 and 3 axle trucks now pay Rs. 300, while articulated trucks face an increase from Rs. 500 to Rs. 550.
This Pakistan toll increase affects not just highways but also major motorways such as the M1, M3, M4, M5, M14, and E35. For instance, car toll on the Islamabad–Peshawar (M1) route is now Rs. 550, up from Rs. 470. The M3 (Lahore–Abdul Hakeem) toll has jumped from Rs. 700 to Rs. 800. Similarly, the M5 (Multan–Sukkur) route rose from Rs. 1,100 to Rs. 1,200, and E35 (Hasan Abdal–Mansehra) increased from Rs. 250 to Rs. 300.
Heavy Impact on Transport Sector
For the commercial transport industry, the toll fee surge is even more severe. Toll fees 2025 for large transport vehicles now range between Rs. 850 and Rs. 5,750 depending on size and route. This steep toll price hike is expected to raise the cost of goods transport, ultimately affecting market prices and consumers.
The highway toll update has sparked concern across the logistics sector, with many warning of a ripple effect across essential goods and services due to higher NHA Toll charges.
Public Left in the Dark
The issue isn’t just the numbers; it’s the timing and lack of transparency. With inflation soaring and citizens already facing tough financial decisions, a second toll rate increase within a few months feels inconsiderate. There has been no proper explanation or commitment to improved infrastructure in return for these NHA toll rates.
Despite growing frustration, the toll rate news was delivered without public consultation or clarity. The silence from the NHA has left citizens questioning whether these rising charges are truly for road maintenance or simply adding financial strain on everyday travelers.
