Top Selling Cars in May 2017

Pakistani economy is growing rapidly where signs of progress are also evident in the Pakistani auto industry. After the interest taken by global investors along with manufacturing of new and advanced cars by local manufacturers, the auto industry saw considerable growth. Following are the 5 top selling cars in May 2017 according to the official stats from Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association.

Toyota Corolla

Since the launch of Toyota Corolla in Pakistan and around the globe 50 years ago, the car is known for getting the status of world’s most selling car. Toyota Corolla is currently available in different variants like:

• 1.3L XLI/GLi
• 1.6 ALTIS
• 1.8 ALTIS
• 1.8 ALTIS Grande

The Corolla is providing best experience for a car which starts with the price of Rs. 17,29,000 with the maximum price of Rs. 23,89,000. Only in the month of May 2017, the company has sold more than 4220 units of Corolla.

Suzuki Mehran

Suzuki Mehran is ranked as one of the most popular car models for Pakistani customers since its launch in 1989. This car is still one of the most preferred cars in Pakistan despite being available in the three decades’ old design and lot of criticism for its quality and standard. The starting price of Suzuki Mehran is PKR 679,000 and 3385 of the units have been sold in May this year. The government has announced the ‘Orange Cab’ scheme last month after which it is expected that the car will attain new sales records in the coming months.

Suzuki Cultus

Suzuki Cultus achieved immediate fame after its launch in the early 90s due to a fuel efficient 1000cc engine and a sleek design. In the year 2017, the company upgraded the car with new equipment and design. Cultus became popular since its launch and the new model also received lot of attention as lots of newly manufactured Cultus cars are also seen on the roads. These new designed cars have air bags, ABS and power steering for safety purposes which makes it superior to the previous model. The car is available in two variants.

• Suzuki Cultus VXR PKR 12,50,000
• Suzuki Cultus VXL PKR 13,91,000

In May 2017, around 2012 units of Suzuki Cultus were sold.

Suzuki Wagon R

As compared to other Suzuki cars, Wagon R is relatively new car. The locally manufactured Wagon R has achieved large sales despite the presence of imported Wagon R in the market which is cheaper and superior. It is mainly due to 1000cc engine as 660cc engine in the imported version while it provides a decent fuel economy of 17-18 km/l. You can also easily maneuver the car due to the presence of power steering. Small families in Pakistan usually choose Wagon R due to large amount of leg amount and its roomy cabin. It is also available in two variants:

• Wagon R VXR PKR 10,52,000
• Wagon R VXL PKR 10,94,000

1927 units of Wagon R were sold by Suzuki in May 2017.

Honda City & Civic

Both City and Civic are placed in the same category by PAMA as there is a competition of Toyota Corolla with both Honda Civic and City. Usually, the sale of Honda City is more than that of Honda Civic but the situation changed with the launch of new model of Honda Civic due to its high tech features and sporty exterior. Both City and Civic have several variants in Pakistan. Price of City starts from PKR 15,00,000 and goes to PKR 18,25,000 while the price of different models of Civic is from PKR 23,49,000 to PKR 24,99,000. A more costly turbo version of PKR 29,99,000 has been discontinued. In the month of May 2017, 3784 units of both City and Civic were sold.
