Toyota Announces Recall of 570,000 Vehicles in China

In a recent announcement, Toyota China, along with its joint ventures FAW-Toyota and GAC-Toyota, has initiated a recall encompassing approximately 570,000 vehicles manufactured between 2018 and 2023. The affected models include 350,021 Corolla units produced between August 2019 and July 2023, 157,458 Highlander models produced between October 2018 and January 2022, and 68,434 imported Lexus RX units manufactured between September 2018 and September 2022.

The recall has been prompted by concerns related to the internal components of the high-pressure fuel pump in the identified vehicles. It has been revealed that these components lack sufficient resistance to pressure, and internal wear may lead to stress concentration-induced cracks in the fuel pump's welding components. In extreme cases, this could result in fuel leakage, creating a potential fire hazard. Additionally, fuel seepage and evaporation may occur, presenting unacceptable emission risks.

To address these issues and mitigate potential risks, Toyota and its joint ventures have committed to conducting free inspections of the high-pressure pumps on the recalled vehicles. If any components are found to be deficient, the affected vehicles will be equipped with upgraded high-pressure fuel pumps. Toyota has advised owners of the specified models to keep their vehicles away from potential fire sources. In the event of detecting a fuel leak or smelling fuel, owners are urged to cease driving the vehicle immediately and contact their respective dealer for proper disposal.

This proactive approach by Toyota underscores their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of their customers. By addressing the identified concerns and providing necessary inspections and upgrades, the automaker aims to prevent any unwarranted discharge risks and safety hazards associated with the affected vehicles. Owners are encouraged to promptly respond to the recall, prioritizing safety above all else.
