Toyota Hilux Gets a Fresh Look Again

After nearly 3.5 years since its last update in June 2020, Toyota has given the Hilux a significant refresh, introducing not only visual enhancements but also a mild-hybrid powertrain.

Australia is the debut market for this facelift, featuring a 48-volt system that improves engine smoothness and, depending on the variant, boosts fuel efficiency by 6% to 10% compared to the current Hilux. The system includes a motor generator, 48-volt battery, and a DC-DC converter, enabling a stop-start system for better drivability and fuel efficiency, while simultaneously reducing noise and vibrations.

The 48-volt mild-hybrid system adds 16 hp and 65 Nm through a belt-integrated starter-generator, complementing the diesel engine's 203 hp and 500 Nm. Variants equipped with the mild-hybrid system also come standard with Multi-Terrain Select.

In terms of visual changes, the 2024 Toyota Hilux boasts a fresh front fascia with an outboard bumper piece, trapezoidal bottom part, and an octagonal grille. While Toyota has not revealed images of the interior or rear end, it suggests they may remain unchanged. The mild-hybrid Hilux is set to arrive in Australian stores in March this year.

This iteration of the Hilux is approaching the end of its life cycle. Introduced in 2015, the 8th-generation Hilux underwent facelifts in 2017 and 2020 before the latest update in 2024. With a new generation expected in the coming years, this facelift is likely the final one. Whether this updated look will be introduced in other markets remains uncertain. Considering the hybrid Corolla Cross's debut in Pakistan, Toyota might explore introducing the Hilux hybrid in other markets.
