Toyota is busy to test the Corolla Cross H2 Concept with hydrogen-powered racing engine. The company has obtained the said engine from GR Corolla H2 endurance racer.
The engine of the car is just like to one, which is found in Toyota GR Corolla and GR Yaris, which is 1.6 liter 3-cylinder turbo engine that provides 300 hp to four wheels through 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine in Corolla Cross H2 Concept is added with high-pressure hydrogen direct injection technology, which allows to add power by 24% and torque by 33%.
The company can extend driving range by about 30% and decreased refueling time from 5 minutes to 1.5 minutes. The goal of Corolla Cross H2 is commercialize retrofit kit, which can be installed in any car.
Toyota is big proponent of hydrogen-powered cars, as the shortage of refueling infrastructure can be the big hurdle to the normalization of technology of this company. By introducing this technology in the most popular crossovers, Toyota wants to get the attention towards hydrogen-powered cars.
