Toyota's Latest GR Yaris Unveiled
Toyota's GR Yaris, a hot hatch that first appeared in January 2020, has now been revamped by the Japanese automaker, resulting in a vehicle that truly lives up to its name. The refreshed GR Yaris boasts a range of enhancements, including increased power, a new transmission option, and an advanced anti-lag control system. The 1.6L three-cylinder engine has been upgraded from its original 260hp/360 Nm to an impressive 300hp of power and 400Nm of torque. This power is now paired with the new 8-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission, which has been endorsed by the TGR World Rally Team drivers. Higher trim levels also feature a front and rear-mounted Torsen LSD, further enhancing the car's performance capabilities.

In addition to the powertrain upgrades, Toyota has also focused on enhancing the Yaris' body rigidity and chassis strength. The number of spot welding points has been increased by 13%, and the application of structural adhesive has been expanded by 24%.
The refreshed GR Yaris features a redesigned front fascia with a new lower grille and functional side air intakes. The bumper's sides now have outlets that efficiently exhaust heat from the sub-radiator and transmission cooler.
Internally, the GR Yaris has undergone significant changes to improve visibility and operability. The control panel is now tilted 15 degrees towards the driver, the driving position has been lowered by 25 mm, the rearview mirror is positioned at the top of the windshield, the shift lever has been raised by 75 mm, and the upper edge of the center cluster has been lowered by 50 mm. New features include a 12.3-inch TFT gauge display and an optional vertical parking brake next to the gear selector.

The Japanese spec 2024 GR Yaris comes with a "Circuit Mode," a paid option that allows unrestricted use of the car's full potential on the track. This mode offers benefits such as an anti-lag control system, a higher speed limit, maximized cooling fan output for lower engine water temperature, and a shift timing indicator. Sales for the new Toyota GR Yaris are set to begin this spring.
