Uber Self Driving Car Ignored Emergency Braking

The US National Transportation Safety Board has issued the preliminary report about the Uber self driving vehicle accident, which took place in Arizona during March this year. The report says that the company has disabled the emergency braking system of the vehicle in order to improve the comfort of the passenger.
The system of the company detected that the 49 years old Elaine Herzberg was coming perpendicular to trajectory path of the vehicle which was classified it as another car at first before 6 minutes to hit her. The vehicle has the modified self driving version of Volvo XC90 factory with the inherent emergency braking system. It decided to apply brake 1.3 seconds prior to crash but it was overridden by software of Uber and it disabled the system to avoid the erratic driving.

In this fatal accident, the driver remained safe but Herzberg was died. The report shows that the system was working fine and had no bugs o r faulty diagnostic reports. The report read that all of the aspects of self driving system were working normally at the time of accident and there were no faults o r diagnostic messages.

Attentive Operator

The report shows that the self driving system of Uber has the heavy dependency on the attentive operator, which monitors the diagnostics and bugs displayed on the iPad screen, which was mounted on center console in the vehicle. It shows that there were no faults in the software but the driver failed to apply the brake at the right time.

Uber has declined to comment on this matter and the spokesperson said that over the period of two months, we worked closely with NTSB. The investigations were carried out and they have initiated their own safety review of the self driving vehicles program. They also brought on former NTSB Chair, Christopher Hart to give them advice on the overall safety culture and they want to share more on changes, they are going to make in the coming weeks.

In a footage, you can see that the 44 years old operator was looking below towards her lap on some sort of screen before the crash. She keeps her personal and business phones in the vehicle and she was not using them until after crash to call for the emergency. The report says that she was monitoring her self-driving system interface.

The report also shows the actions of the pedestrian and her toxicology report shows that she has consumed marijuana and methamphetamine before the crash and she did not responded o r looked towards the vehicle approaching to her.
She was dressed in the dark clothing and she was crossing the busy road intersection and she ignored the road sign, which gives the clear warning to the pedestrian not to cross the road from there. The local people say that there is homeless encampment nearby and the residents crossed the intersection regularly.
The CEO of Uber said that his company is pulling out all of the test cars out of States after crash and it will now soon start the testing in most areas except Arizona.

The main thing is that we do the right thing, which can make us satisfied and the teams at the Advanced Technologies Group of Uber can be satisfied that nothing can be happened again like this but you cannot give guarantee of anything in the life.
