Vehicle Transfer On Open Letters in Punjab

The Excise and Taxation Department, Government of Punjab reportedly warned the vehicle owners to cancel the registration of the vehicles which are transferred on the open letters.

According to reports, the Excise and Taxation Department has given a deadline to register such vehicles in the owner’s name.

The department has given a deadline of 20 days and warned that the department will cancel the vehicle transfer on open letters after deadline expires.

The department has directed all vehicle owners to transfer their vehicles to their names according to already implemented rule. They are asked to complete the process before 30th June 2020.

The department will start the biometric vehicle transfer and both seller and buyer will have to come for biometric vehicle transfer from 1st July 2021.
The vehicle owners can get information about the ownership of a vehicle, by calling 0800-08786, sending an SMS to 8785 o r can visit the official website of the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department.

I sold my car to a colleague few years ago who did not transfer it to his name despite my request. Now car is with unknown person as the buyer sold it in market. How i get the car removed from my name? Should i submit application to police o r Excise department to save myself in case car is used in illegal activities?
