Volvo Unveils the EM90 Electric MPV Teaser

Volvo has provided a sneak peek of its inaugural all-electric MPV, the EM90, slated for a 2024 launch. However, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) couldn't contain its excitement, revealing significant specifications and the vehicle's design prematurely.

Exploring the EM90's Unique Venture
This marks Volvo's maiden foray into the MPV segment, introducing the distinctive EM90. As speculated, the Electric MPV EM90 is built upon Geely's versatile SEA platform, which also underpins various Zeekr models, including the Zeekr 009, Polestar 4, Zeekr 001, and Zeekr X.

EM90's Performance and Powertrain
The EM90 shares its powertrain with one of the Zeekr 009 configurations, featuring a 272 hp electric motor mounted at the rear, produced by VREMT under Geely's umbrella. Unfortunately, an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of this Volvo model appears to be absent. While the battery capacity remains undisclosed, the EM90 utilizes NMC cells supplied by CATL.

Distinctive Design with a Nod to Volvo's Aesthetic
In terms of design, the EM90 diverges from its Zeekr 009 counterpart, aligning more closely with Volvo's signature design language. Nevertheless, the overall chassis profile bears a striking resemblance to the Zeekr models, showcasing the EM90's substantial dimensions. Weighing in at 2,763 kg, it measures 5,206 mm in length, 2,024 mm in width, 1,859 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 3,205 mm.

Exclusively China-Bound
Regrettably, the EM90 is designated as a China-exclusive model, with Volvo confirming its absence from European and American markets. Although much about Volvo's premier MPV remains under wraps, an official announcement appears imminent, so stay tuned for updates.
