Xiaomi Ramps Up SU7 Production Amid High Demand
Xiaomi’s electric vehicle (EV) plant is boosting production to meet the rising demand for its SU7 model. Launched in March, the SU7 is Xiaomi’s first EV, manufactured at its factory in Beijing. The plant currently has an annual capacity of 150,000 units, with plans to expand output in the coming months.
In October, the factory operated at 160% capacity, producing over 20,000 units. To keep pace with demand, Xiaomi aims to increase production to 24,000 units monthly in November and December, pushing its capacity close to 200%.
Xiaomi is on track to reach 100,000 cumulative deliveries of the SU7 by November, with a year-end target of 120,000. Despite a 21-week waiting period for new orders, SU7 demand remains strong, averaging 4,000 orders weekly since August.
The SU7 Ultra, a premium model starting at RMB 814,900 ($114,720), began pre-sales on October 29. It received 3,680 pre-orders within 10 minutes, underscoring high interest in Xiaomi’s expanding EV lineup.
To support this growth, Xiaomi is fast-tracking the second phase of its EV plant, expected to be complete by June 2025. This expansion will double production capacity to 300,000 units per year, reducing delivery delays. Construction crews are working double shifts to meet the deadline, aiming to streamline Xiaomi’s delivery process as new models like the MX11 SUV roll out.
