Xiaomi Reveals the SU7 in China

After a flurry of spy shots and renderings circulating on the internet, Xiaomi has officially introduced its inaugural Electric Car (EV), the SU7 sedan, in China. This vehicle will be manufactured by BAIC at a Beijing factory with an annual capacity of 200,000 units.

Xiaomi's Ambitious Vision in the Automotive Realm

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun expresses the company's ambitious goal to position itself among the top five automakers globally within the next 15 to 20 years. Notably, this move follows in the footsteps of other tech giants like Huawei and Meizu, the latter planning to launch its own car next year.

Design and Dimensions:

Built on Xiaomi's Modena platform, the SU7 boasts dimensions (4,997 mm length, 1,963 mm width, 1,440 mm height, and a 3,000 mm wheelbase) placing it between a Porsche Taycan and a Tesla Model S. Renowned former BMW chief designer Chris Bangle was the design consultant, resulting in distinctive features like triangular-shaped headlamps and wide-width taillights with a unique C-shaped signature.

Interior Innovation and Technology Integration

Inside, the SU7 showcases a straightforward dashboard design housing a 16.1-inch 3K touchscreen. Xiaomi retains physical controls for various vehicle functions, supported by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 SoC for the infotainment system, running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS. The integration of CarloT allows mounting iPads for controlling vehicle functions, and the system is open to third-party hardware.

Powertrain and Performance

The SU7 adopts an 800-volt electrical architecture, featuring three electric motor variants, part of the 'HyperEngine V6 Series' and 'HyperEngine V8s.' The CATL batteries offer a total energy capacity of 101 kWh, providing an impressive CLTC-rated cruising range of 800 km. Two announced variants include the base SU7 and the SU7 Max, with the latter boasting dual electric motors for all-wheel drive and exceptional performance metrics.

Driving Features and Safety Standards

Driving-related features include air suspension, adaptive dampers, an active shutter grille, and an adjustable rear wing. The Xiaomi Pilot with 16 functions is standard for safety and driving assistance. The SU7 has undergone rigorous testing, passing 40 crash tests, and features a high-strength steel and aluminum alloy construction for robustness.

Stylish Choices:

Available in Aqua Blue, Mineral Gray, and Verdant Green, the SU7 offers interior options in grey, red, or black. A special edition Xiaomi 14, matching the car's color scheme, is also available for customers seeking a perfect synergy between their Xiaomi EV and smartphone.

Upcoming Launch and Pricing Details

While Xiaomi has yet to disclose pricing details, the SU7 is set to go on sale in China early next year, marking an exciting entry into the competitive electric vehicle market.
