Xiaomi Unveils First Car, SU7 EV, in MIIT Images

Xiaomi's foray into the automotive industry is marked by the revelation of their inaugural vehicle, the SU7 electric sedan. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China, responsible for homologation procedures, has unveiled images of the car. Anticipated by renderings and leaked images earlier this year, the SU7, codenamed MS11, is also known as the 'Mi Car' and will be produced under contract by the established carmaker BAIC.

The SU7 boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and featuring a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Notably larger than the Toyota Camry XV70, this electric sedan positions itself as a spacious and commanding vehicle in its class.

Equipped with batteries from BYD (LFP) and CATL (ternary NMC), the Xiaomi SU7 offers a base RWD setup with a 295 hp (220 kW) motor. The dual-motor AWD configuration enhances performance with an additional front 369 hp (275 kW) unit, resulting in a total power of 664 hp (495 kW). The RWD variant reaches a top speed of 210 km/h, while the AWD variant can achieve up to 265 km/h.

The regulatory filing indicates three versions of the EV: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max, each featuring 19-inch or 20-inch wheels depending on the trim. Noteworthy features include an active rear wing, optional Lidar technology, and a B-pillar camera hinting at a facial recognition unlocking function.

Xiaomi's HyperOS, an in-house operating system, will power the SU7's in-car system, offering seamless integration with smartphones. The inclusion of an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system enhances the overall driving experience. BAIC's Beijing facility has initiated a trial production run, with mass production set to commence in December and deliveries expected to start in February 2024. The Xiaomi SU7 marks a significant step in the brand's automotive journey, combining advanced technology, spacious design, and performance capabilities.
