Can a bad water pump cause overheating only in summer on long drives?

My Mehran runs fine during winter, but it overheats on long highway drives in summer. Radiator and thermostat are okay. Could the water pump be the reason for heat-up issues only in summer?

Yes, especially in Pakistan’s hot summers like in Lahore, Multan, o r Karachi, a weak o r failing water pump may not circulate coolant efficiently, leading to overheating only during high engine loads like:

Long highway drives.

A/C usage in traffic.

Climbing steep roads like in Murree o r northern areas.

In cooler weather, the engine doesn’t generate as much heat, so the problem might not appear. But in summer, the poor circulation can’t keep up with the heat.

If the radiator and thermostat are okay, then a partially failing water pump is very likely. Replacing it early can prevent head gasket damage.
