Can a clogged catalytic converter cause my Suzuki Mehran to overheat?

My Mehran tends to heat up more than usual, especially in traffic o r on long drives. A mechanic mentioned it could be due to a clogged catalytic converter restricting exhaust flow. Is this a common issue in Mehrans, and how do I verify it without expensive diagnostics?

Yes, it can. When the catalytic converter is clogged, the engine has to work harder to push exhaust gases out, causing excessive backpressure. This backpressure increases engine heat and can lead to overheating, especially in hot Pakistani summers o r traffic jams.
It may also cause:

Engine knocking o r pinging.

The radiator fan working harder than usual.

Poor AC performance due to engine strain.

Get your exhaust system checked. If removing the oxygen sensor temporarily improves performance, it’s a strong sign of a blocked catalytic converter.
