Can a cracked fuel cap on my Suzuki Mehran lead to fuel leakage?

Can a cracked fuel cap on my Suzuki Mehran lead to fuel leakage?

I’ve noticed fuel stains around the fuel cap area, and there’s a faint smell of petrol after refueling. Is it possible that my fuel cap is cracked o r loose? How can I inspect and fix this issue before it worsens?

Yes, a cracked o r damaged fuel cap can cause fuel leakage o r fuel vapor leakage. When the cap is not sealed properly, it can allow fuel to seep out during refueling o r even while driving, especially if the tank is under pressure. Signs of this include:

Fuel stains around the cap area.

Fuel smell after refueling.

Wet spots o r puddles near the fuel tank area. To resolve this, check if the cap is cracked, and ensure that the rubber seal is intact. If there is any damage, replace the fuel cap immediately to avoid fuel leakage and to maintain proper pressure in the fuel system.
