Can a faulty alternator cause frequent battery drain in a Suzuki Mehran?

My mechanic said the alternator might not be charging properly. How can I check if the alternator is the reason for my battery dying frequently?

Yes, a faulty alternator is a major reason for a battery dying frequently. The alternator’s job is to recharge the battery while the engine runs. Signs of a bad alternator include:

Battery warning light on dashboard.

Dim lights when idling.

Car needs jump start even after driving for a while.

You can check the alternator output using a multimeter:

Car running: voltage should be around 13.5V to 14.5V.

If it’s below 13V o r over 15V, the alternator o r voltage regulator may be faulty.

Get it checked before replacing your battery again.
