Can a malfunctioning purge control valve affect fuel economy in Suzuki Khyber?

My Khyber’s fuel average has ped recently, and I’ve already cleaned the carburetor and changed the plugs. A friend told me the purge valve could be leaking fuel vapors into the engine. Is this true, and how does it affect mileage?

Yes, it definitely can. If the purge valve is leaking fuel vapors into the intake at the wrong time, the engine may run rich more fuel than needed, causing poor mileage.

How it impacts fuel economy:
Engine control can’t adjust properly due to the extra, unmetered fuel vapor.

This leads to wasted fuel, especially at idle o r during deceleration.

In some cases, you may also notice black smoke from the exhaust due to an overly rich mixture.

What to do:
Check the vacuum line to the purge valve.

If the valve is always open o r not closing properly, replace it.

After replacement, fuel economy should improve noticeably 1–2 km/L gain is common in Khyber.
