Can poor-quality roads and frequent bumps damage the alternator in Suzuki Mehran?
I drive my Mehran mostly on rough and broken roads in rural Punjab. After a few months, I’ve started noticing irregular electrical issues — battery light flickering, dimming lights, and occasional engine hiccups. Could the poor roads be causing alternator o r wiring damage? How can I protect the alternator in such conditions?

Yes, rough roads and speed bumps can contribute to alternator issues over time, especially in older models like Mehran, which have minimal engine bay insulation. Here’s how:
Constant jolts can loosen electrical connections on the alternator.
Dust and debris from unpaved roads can enter the alternator, causing internal wear o r overheating.
Vibration can lead to cracks in mounting brackets o r damage to the alternator belt.
To prevent this, regularly check the alternator mounting bolts and wiring, especially after long drives on bad roads. Cleaning the engine bay with air pressure not water also helps remove dust.
