City Vario gear oil change created knocking ...

Dear All

A friend rang me up to ask that he got changed the vario transmission oil. Used ZIC synthetic one (this is what he said). However, since then the car engine has started knocking. When he used Hi-Octance fuel, the knocking stopped.

I was wondering what gear oil has to do with engine knocking.

Further someone advised him that he should immediately go for Honda's own CVT gear oil else within 2 - 6 months the transmission will start giving swear problem.

I wish to ask:

a) does zic synthetic transmission oil has anything to do with engine knocking.

b) should he go for the change from honda or stick with this?

c) if he should stick how to recitfy the problem.
