CNG installation on MPFi & EFi vehicles
CNG installation on MPFi & EFi vehicles
MPFI (Cherolet Exclusive, Santro Plus, Daewoo Matiz) is more advanced technology than EFI-TBi (Santro Club, Daewoo
Racer) which in turn is more advanced than carburettor systems (Cultus, Alto,
Mehran,Classic,Margalla)
Why Santro Club has EFI and Santro Plus (Old Model) had MPFI ??
Well My friends this is pakistan , tehnology moves ahead (GM abandoned using simple EFi i.e TBI systems well 15
years ago and are nowdays common in junkyards in outside world ) and caburettor systems
in junkyards of junkyards, and we living in pakistan are moving behined
ie Santro people have abandoned using MPFI and are using EFi engine , maybe(r) maybe due to these reasons:-
(I fear abandoning of EFi engine by them)
- Low Technical Skills available in Market for maintenance, users cannot handle MPFi
- The CNG kits of MPFI are expensive (35k)
- To cater for complaints of people pushing cheap EFi kits into MPFI engines that certianly wont give the right
performance and damaging the engines.
- To reduce cost (but still charging 40K Rs for 24K worth)
Note that indian Maruti 800 (aka Mehran) gives 22-23 km/litres (max) and their alto also (both have MPFI engines) and
they dont require CNG
(This is just a personal analyisis/This is only a maybe story/ dont quote it elsewhere)
Well this is really interesting
-'Santro contacted italian CNG manufacturers and made a specially designed CNG kit for their new model Club'..
.....Well the point is that what is the special feature in that kit??
I ask u again? what is the special feature in that kit??
- all kit components are same- cylinders are avilable off the shelf- ... Got the point, No??
Lemme get it straight,
Santro dumbheads went to italian manufactures to seek advice , they advised them to use their heads and use smaller
cylinders and also told them from where they should buy it, but still things were complicated for these dummies. Santro
people bought the cylinders and sadly enough they were still large , so they went again to italians (maybe on phone)
that the cylinders still couldnt fit in the round wheel-area - so italians gave them the final advice and charged them for
it , the advice maybe was - Open your mind, if the cylinders are a bit larger and wont fit in a circular wheel-area MAKE
IT SQUARE AND PUSH OFF!!! - well go see yourself in showroom- and santro made sure that those cylinders are not
available to general public also
(/)
My Friends,
For your consumption MPFI engines are more sophisticated than EFI-TBi Engines and MPFI kits include an additional
CNG-ECU that reads inputs from main Original ECU and generates pulses to the special CNG injectors so that the
engine produces same output to give petrol equivalent performance. (CNG cosumption is therefore unoptimized for fuel
economy, but are optimized for performance and pollution control, that is why lower the CC of engine lower is the
difference in fuel economy wrt petrol - not because MPFi has low cng-economy but because it has higher
petrol-economy) If someone thinks a damn about environment he can use PerformanceChips for ECU but thats risky.
As EFi Engine dont have mutiport injectors so the EFi kits use multiport-injector-emulators, thats why they are
expensive from normal kits. An MPFI engine has them so they are used in a simpler way.
Moreover Caburetors and EFi-TBi engines are designed as Wet-Manifold and MPFi is designed from groundup as
Dry-Manifold and seems more naturally adaptable to alternate dry fuel like CNG.
Nowdays, MPFI CNG kits are more sleek and expensive and so pople trying shortcuts just so save few bucks not
installing full MPFI kits
So, older EFi engines will be around in pakistan for next 10+ years, Well Done Santro !!!
and well done Suzuki too for dragging the carburator engines to the next century. Surely this country is moving
backwards
In my humble opinion after too much deliberation I think that this Combination is good:-
- Chevy 800 CC with MPFI engine
+ CNG kit for MPFI engine Complete with CNG injectors and CNG ECU
and
the DONUT shaped imported cng cylinder
that fits like a glove in your wheel compartment
One More Advice , Get your CNG kit installed from a renowned party and demand them to use engine analysers
and monitor and get printed engine analysis from them, after all its you who is spending the money
surely you wont regret it for next 7 years.
If you disagree to all of the above and still adament and skeptical i would advise you to buy Mehran (Tonga that
demands horse on the steering wheel)
