Could a dirty air filter be causing poor fuel economy in my Suzuki Alto?

I’ve heard that a clogged o r dirty air filter can affect the fuel efficiency of a car. Could this be the case with my Suzuki Alto? How do I know if it needs replacing, and what impact will a clean filter have on fuel consumption?

Yes, a dirty air filter can significantly impact fuel efficiency. The air filter’s job is to provide the engine with clean air for combustion. When it’s clogged with dirt and debris, it restricts airflow to the engine, causing it to burn more fuel to produce the same amount of power. As a result, the engine operates less efficiently, leading to increased fuel consumption.

Solution:
If you notice a decrease in performance o r fuel economy, it’s time to inspect and replace the air filter. In dusty environments, such as those common in Pakistan, it’s advisable to check the air filter regularly, at least every 10,000-15,000 km, and replace it if necessary.
