Does the Suzuki Khyber engine struggle on highways at high speeds?
Ive noticed that my Khyber feels underpowered when I drive above 100 km/h on the highway. It starts making more noise and doesnt accelerate smoothly. Is this a common issue due to the engines capacity, o r could there be something wrong with my car?

Yes, the stock Khyber 993cc, carbureted engine can struggle on highways at speeds over 100–110 km/h, especially if the car is loaded o r going uphill.
🔍 Reasons Why the Khyber Engine Struggles at High Speed
1. Small Engine Size 993cc
The Khyber was never built for high-speed cruising.
Its engine lacks torque at higher RPMs, so overtaking on highways feels sluggish.
✅ Fix: Avoid overloading the car. Try to downshift when overtaking instead of pushing it in 5th gear.
2. Old Carburetor System
Being carburetor-based, fuel delivery isn’t as efficient o r responsive at high speeds compared to modern EFI systems.
The car can feel starved for power, especially if the carburetor is dirty o r unadjusted.
✅ Fix: Have the carb cleaned and tuned regularly. A properly tuned carb can make a big difference.
3. Worn Engine o r Low Compression
Many Khybers on the road today are 20+ years old. If the engine is tired, you’ll feel a serious in highway performance.
✅ Fix: Get a compression test done. If compression is low, a top-overhaul o r even full engine rebuild might be needed.
4. Weak Gear Ratios
The Khyber’s 5-speed transmission isn’t geared for high-speed cruising.
At 100+ km/h, the engine revs high, which leads to strain and higher fuel consumption.
✅ Fix: There’s no easy fix here unless you swap in a transmission with longer gear ratios — but thats not common.
5. Cooling System Limitations
On long highway drives, especially in hot Pakistani summers, the engine may overheat slightly if the radiator, thermostat, o r water pump is weak.
✅ Fix: Make sure the radiator is clean, coolant is topped up, and the fan is working properly Khyber has a mechanical fan, which is less efficient at high speeds.
6. Aerodynamics and Stability
The Khyber has basic aerodynamics, so at high speeds, it starts to feel light o r unstable, especially if tires are old o r suspension is weak.
✅ Fix: Use high-quality tires, ensure wheel alignment, and upgrade suspension components if they’re worn out.
