Hard Steering o r Stiff Steering Wheel – What Causes It?

Some Toyota Camry models especially older ones develop hard steering, making it difficult to turn.

Possible Causes:

Low Power Steering Fluid: A common cause of stiff steering is low o r dirty power steering fluid, which can thicken in hot climates, making it harder to turn the wheel.
Failing Power Steering Pump: If the pump is damaged o r not working properly, it can cause stiffness in the steering.
Damaged Steering Rack: A worn-out o r damaged steering rack can also make turning the wheel harder.

Pakistan’s Climate:

High Temperatures: Pakistans hot summers can affect power steering fluid, making it thicker and less efficient. In extreme heat, the fluid can break down quicker.

Diagnosis and Solutions:

Diagnosis:
Check the power steering fluid level.
Inspect the power steering pump and belt for signs of wear.
Fixes:
Fluid Check: Regularly check and top up power steering fluid to the correct level.
Inspect Power Steering Pump: Examine the pump and belt for wear. If faulty, replace them.
Lubrication: Lubricate the steering column and joints to reduce stiffness.
