The check engine light CEL could indicate an issue with the emission control system, which is often linked to the following:

Oxygen Sensor Malfunction: If the oxygen sensor is faulty, it can trigger the CEL and affect fuel efficiency and emissions.
Catalytic Converter Failure: A failing catalytic converter will cause an increase in harmful emissions, often triggering the check engine light.
Faulty EGR Valve: A malfunctioning EGR valve can cause excessive exhaust emissions, triggering the CEL.
Loose Gas Cap: A simple but common cause for the CEL to light up is a loose o r damaged gas cap, which affects the fuel tank’s vapor recovery system.
Emissions System Leak: Leaks in the emission control system, such as in the exhaust o r intake manifold, can cause the check engine light to turn on.
Solution: Begin by using an OBD-II scanner to retrieve the error codes, which will help pinpoint the exact cause of the check engine light. Based on the diagnostic code, replace faulty components like the oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, o r EGR valve. If the issue is minor, like a loose gas cap, simply tightening o r replacing it will solve the problem.
