How can I tell if my Suzuki Mehran’s fuel cap is causing a check engine light to appear?

The check engine light recently came on in my Mehran, and I’ve read that it could be related to the fuel cap. Can a cracked o r loose fuel cap trigger the check engine light? What are the signs that the cap needs to be replaced?

A loose o r damaged fuel cap is a common cause of a check engine light. It can trigger the Evaporative Emission Control System EVAP malfunction code in your car’s computer, which is designed to detect fuel vapor leaks. Common signs that the fuel cap is the culprit:

Check engine light turns on.

You may hear a hissing sound when opening the fuel cap indicating pressure loss.

Fuel smell around the vehicle, especially after refueling. To confirm, ensure the fuel cap is securely tightened. If the light remains on, replace the cap o r get the system checked for leaks.
