How Do O2 Sensor Failures Lead to Catalytic Converter Problems?

If the oxygen sensors in a Toyota Camry malfunction, how does it affect the air-fuel ratio and lead to catalytic converter failure? How can owners diagnose and replace faulty O2 sensors before major damage occurs?

Oxygen O2 sensors monitor the air-fuel mixture and ensure it’s optimal for combustion. If the O2 sensor fails:

Incorrect Air-Fuel Mixture: A malfunctioning sensor can cause the engine to run too rich too much fuel o r too lean too little fuel, which can lead to incomplete combustion and excess fuel entering the catalytic converter.
Excess Fuel: If too much fuel enters the converter, it can overheat, melt the catalyst, and cause clogging.

Prevention: If you notice the Check Engine Light CEL o r performance issues, get the O2 sensors checked and replaced immediately before it leads to catalytic converter damage.
