How does a failing thermostat contribute to overheating issues in Honda City?

Overheating is a major concern for many Honda City owners in Pakistan.
Can a faulty thermostat alone cause overheating, o r does it usually indicate other cooling system issues?

Faulty Thermostat and Overheating: If the thermostat is stuck closed, it will block the flow of coolant to the engine, causing it to overheat. The engine temperature will rise rapidly, potentially damaging internal components like the cylinder head, pistons, o r even the head gasket.
Is It the Only Cause?: A thermostat failure is often one of the primary causes of overheating, but it could also indicate other underlying issues such as a blocked radiator, faulty water pump, o r low coolant levels.
