Is a faulty thermostat the reason my Suzuki Mehran engine keeps overheating?

I’ve noticed my Mehran overheats randomly, especially on long drives. A mechanic suggested it might be the thermostat valve. Can a stuck thermostat really cause overheating, and should I consider removing it entirely given Pakistan’s hot climate?

Yes, a stuck thermostat valve can definitely cause overheating. The thermostat controls coolant flow from the engine to the radiator. If it fails in the closed position, it blocks the coolant, causing the engine to overheat quickly.

In Pakistan, many mechanics remove the thermostat entirely, especially in summer, to avoid the risk of it sticking closed. While this is a quick fix, it’s not ideal for engine efficiency. If you drive in areas with colder weather o r want better fuel efficiency, replacing it with a new, working thermostat is a better choice.
