Toyota Corolla Brake Pads Wearing Out Unevenly – What’s Wrong?

Hi all,

I recently checked my brake pads and noticed that one side is wearing down faster than the other. Could this be due to a sticking caliper o r something else?

Has anyone else experienced uneven brake pad wear on their Corolla? How did you fix it?

Uneven brake pad wear on one side is often caused by a sticking caliper, which prevents the pad from fully releasing and leads to excessive wear. Other possible causes include a seized slide pin, uneven brake hose pressure, o r issues with the brake master cylinder.

To diagnose the issue, check if the caliper piston moves freely when pressing and releasing the brake pedal. Inspect the caliper slide pins for rust o r debris and ensure they are properly lubricated. If one pad is significantly more worn than the other, replacing o r rebuilding the caliper may be necessary. Also, check for a collapsed brake hose, as it can create pressure imbalance.

Regular maintenance, including cleaning and lubricating caliper components, can help prevent uneven wear and extend the life of your brake pads. If the issue persists, a full brake system inspection is recommended to avoid further damage.
