Toyota Corolla Touchscreen Unresponsive – What Can I Do?

Hi all,

The touchscreen in my Toyota Corolla sometimes stops responding, especially in cold weather. I have to restart the car to get it working again.

Is this a known issue? Any tips for fixing it without replacing the whole unit?

Looking forward to your suggestions!

Hey,

It sounds like a frustrating issue, especially when it’s cold outside. There could be a few reasons why the touchscreen in your Corolla isn’t responding properly in cold weather. Here are a few things you can try before opting for a replacement:

Software Update: Check if there are any software updates available for your infotainment system. Sometimes, manufacturers release updates to fix glitches, and this might resolve the touchscreen responsiveness issue. You can usually check for updates through the settings menu in the system o r by visiting a dealership.

Reset the System: Since the issue is happening with the cars system, try doing a soft reset. Turn off the car, wait a minute, and restart it. If that doesn’t work, you can try holding the power button on the infotainment screen for 10-15 seconds to force a reset.

Disconnect the Battery: If the touchscreen still isn’t working after a restart, try disconnecting the cars battery for about 10 minutes. This can reset the entire electrical system, which may resolve any software-related glitches.

Screen Calibration: In some cases, the touchscreen might need recalibration. Check your car’s manual o r settings menu to see if there’s a touchscreen calibration option. This is especially useful if the screen is intermittently unresponsive.

Temperature and Condensation: Cold weather could be causing the screen to react slowly. You might also want to check if condensation is forming on the screen, which can interfere with touch sensitivity. If this is the case, keeping the car in a warmer environment o r using defoggers in the cabin may help. Try to avoid extreme cold temperatures in the car if possible.

Check for Loose Connections: Sometimes, loose connections behind the screen can cause intermittent touchscreen issues. If youre comfortable with removing panels o r have someone who can inspect it for you, this may help in identifying any loose wires that need attention.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it could be a sign of a deeper problem with the screen o r infotainment system that may need professional repair o r replacement.

Hope this helps, and let us know how it goes!
