Toyota Corolla Uneven Tire Wear – Is It the Wheel Alignment o r Something Else?

Hello,

I’ve been seeing uneven tire wear on my Toyota Corolla, and I’m trying to figure out the cause. The tread on the inside of the tires is much more worn than the outside.

Could this be a problem with the wheel alignment o r possibly the camber? I’ve heard both could contribute to this kind of wear. What do you all recommend I check first?

Uneven tire wear, especially when the inner tread is more worn than the outer, is often a sign of a negative camber issue o r improper wheel alignment. Camber refers to the angle of the wheels relative to the road, and excessive negative camber can cause the inside of the tires to wear out faster. Misalignment, particularly too much toe-in o r toe-out, can also contribute to this issue.

The first thing to check would be your wheel alignment. Even if you had it done recently, hitting potholes o r curbs can knock it out of spec. A professional alignment check will confirm if adjustments are needed.

Additionally, inspect your suspension components, including control arms, ball joints, and bushings. Worn o r damaged suspension parts can cause alignment angles to shift over time, leading to uneven wear. If your Corolla has high mileage, worn shocks o r struts could also be a contributing factor, as they affect how the tires maintain contact with the road.

Keeping your tires properly inflated and rotating them regularly every 5,000–7,500 miles can help slow uneven wear, but addressing the root cause is essential to prevent further damage. I’d recommend getting a full alignment and suspension check to diagnose and resolve the issue.
