Toyota Corolla Windshield Wipers Leaving Streaks – Help?

Hi all,

My Toyota Corolla’s windshield wipers leave streaks every time I use them. I’ve tried cleaning the wipers and the windshield, but the problem persists. The wipers don’t seem to be damaged, so I’m wondering if it’s an issue with the wiper blades o r something else.

Has anyone experienced this before? What did you do to fix it?

Appreciate any help!

Hi!

If cleaning the wipers and windshield hasnt fixed the streaking issue, here are a few potential causes and solutions:

Worn o r Damaged Wiper Blades: Even if they don’t look damaged, wiper blades can wear down over time, especially if they are older. The rubber can harden o r crack, which leads to poor contact with the windshield and causes streaks. Consider replacing the wiper blades, even if they appear to be in good condition.

Wiper Blade Build-Up: Sometimes, dirt, grease, o r old washer fluid residue can build up on the wiper blades, leading to streaking. Try cleaning the rubber part of the wiper blades with a cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol to remove any built-up grime.

Windshield Cleanliness: Streaks can also be caused by residue on the windshield itself, even after it looks clean. Make sure youre using a quality glass cleaner, and consider wiping down the windshield with a clean microfiber cloth after spraying the cleaner. You can also try using a mixture of water and vinegar 50/50 for a deep clean.

Washer Fluid: Sometimes, the type of washer fluid youre using can leave streaks. If the fluid is old o r too thick, it could be leaving a residue. Try using a different washer fluid o r make sure it’s fresh and not contaminated.

Wiper Arm Pressure: If the wiper arms aren’t applying enough pressure to the windshield, they won’t wipe effectively. This could be due to worn-out springs o r improperly adjusted arms. If you notice that the wipers are leaving streaks in certain areas but not others, this might be the issue.

Rain-X o r Other Coatings: If you’ve applied a water-repellent treatment like Rain-X to the windshield, it can sometimes cause streaks if the wipers aren’t in great condition. The coating makes it harder for wipers to get a clean swipe. You can try removing the Rain-X coating with a dedicated cleaner and then see if it improves.

Hopefully, one of these solutions helps! Let me know if you need further assistance.
