Toyota Rav4 1998 Fuel Pump

I own a Toyota Rav4 1998 3SFE engine model. I am facing a strange issue for the last one year. Mostly car runs smoothly but sometimes it suddenly stops, gives jerks and missing. RPM s and if you push the accelerator in Neutral gear too, it still doesn't respond. Then it is cooled down for sometime and it runs perfect again but when the temperature increases it does the same. Some one told us that it is because of faulty fuel pump inside the tank. Expert opinions are required.
