Toyota Yaris Dashboard Bulb Burnout – How to Fix It?

Hi all,

I’ve noticed the dashboard lights in my Toyota Yaris keep burning out, and I have to replace them frequently. It’s getting a bit annoying, and I’m not sure what’s causing it. I’ve checked the fuses, but the issue keeps happening.

Could it be an issue with the voltage regulation, o r is there something specific about the Yaris that leads to this? Any guidance on fixing this issue for good?

Thanks for your insights!

It sounds like you might be dealing with an overvoltage issue o r a problem in the electrical system. Here are some potential causes and solutions to consider:

Overvoltage: If your vehicle’s alternator is producing higher voltage than normal over 14 volts, it could be causing your dashboard lights to burn out more quickly. You can use a multimeter to check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. Ideally, it should be between 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If its higher, your voltage regulator might be faulty and causing excess voltage to reach the dashboard lights.

Faulty Alternator o r Voltage Regulator: The alternator and voltage regulator work together to ensure the correct amount of electricity is supplied to the vehicles electrical components. If either of these is malfunctioning, it could lead to overcharging, which can cause bulbs to burn out. Have these components tested to ensure they’re functioning properly.

Electrical Grounding Issue: A poor ground connection can also cause electrical problems, leading to fluctuating voltage levels and potentially damaging bulbs. Check the ground connections in the dashboard area and ensure they are clean, tight, and free of corrosion.

Loose o r Faulty Wiring: If there’s a short o r loose wire in the circuit supplying power to the dashboard lights, it could cause intermittent power issues that lead to frequent burnouts. Inspect the wiring and connections for any signs of damage.

Check the Bulb Type: Ensure you’re using the correct type and wattage of bulb as specified by your vehicles manual. Using the wrong type could cause the bulbs to burn out faster.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be worth seeking help from an automotive electrician to thoroughly diagnose and address the underlying electrical problem.
