Toyota Yaris Power Door Lock Only Unlocking on One Side – How to Fix It?
Hello all,
I’ve noticed that my Toyota Yaris power door lock only unlocks the passenger side doors while the driver’s side remains locked, no matter what button I press. I’m not sure if it’s a wiring issue o r a problem with the door lock actuator.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? What’s causing this issue, and how can I fix it?
Appreciate any advice you can provide!

It sounds like youre experiencing a problem where the power door locks in your Toyota Yaris are working on the passenger side but not on the drivers side. This could be caused by several factors. Heres how to diagnose and address the issue:
Faulty Door Lock Actuator: The most likely cause of this issue is a faulty door lock actuator on the drivers side. The actuator is responsible for locking and unlocking the door when you press the button on the key fob o r interior switch. If its malfunctioning, it may not respond to the signal to lock o r unlock the drivers door, even though the passenger side works fine.
Solution:
You can test the door lock actuator by manually locking and unlocking the drivers door with the key. If it works manually, then the actuator might only be malfunctioning with the power door lock system.
Replacing the door lock actuator on the drivers side will likely solve the issue.
Wiring o r Connection Issue: A wiring problem could be preventing the power lock system from sending the signal to the drivers side door lock actuator. If there is a loose o r broken wire, it could stop the drivers side lock from responding to the power door lock mechanism.
Solution:
Inspect the wiring inside the door panel and around the door lock system for any loose o r damaged wires. Pay special attention to the wiring near the door hinge, where wires often get pinched o r broken.
Repairing o r reconnecting any damaged wires should resolve the issue.
Faulty Door Lock Switch o r Control Module: The problem could also lie with the door lock switch o r the control module that sends the signal to the actuators. If the switch that controls the drivers door lock is malfunctioning, it may not be sending the signal to unlock the drivers door.
Solution:
Test the door lock switch by trying to lock and unlock the drivers door from the inside and outside.
If the switch seems to be the problem, it may need to be replaced.
Blown Fuse o r Relay: While less likely in this case since the passenger doors are working, a blown fuse o r faulty relay could still cause issues with the drivers side door lock. A blown fuse might affect one specific door o r part of the system, such as the drivers door lock actuator.
Solution:
Check the fuse related to the power door locks you can find this information in your vehicle’s owner manual.
If the fuse is blown, replace it with the appropriate one. If that doesn’t solve the problem, the issue is likely elsewhere in the system.
Key Fob Battery o r Signal Issue: Although this is less likely if only the drivers side door is affected, its worth checking if the problem happens with both the key fob and the interior button. If the issue only happens with the key fob, the fob’s battery might be weak, o r there could be a problem with the fobs signal.
Solution:
Try using the interior door lock button to see if it behaves the same way.
Replace the key fob battery if necessary, o r try a different fob if you have one.
Faulty Door Lock Actuator: The most likely cause of this issue is a faulty door lock actuator on the drivers side.
