Toyota Yaris Power Window Going Up Slowly – Is This Normal?
Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed that the power window on my Toyota Yaris is going up much slower than usual. It’s almost like it’s struggling to close. I’m concerned that the motor o r the regulator might be failing.
Has anyone experienced this issue? What could be causing the window to go up slowly? Is it something I can fix myself, o r should I take it to a mechanic?
Thanks for your help!

A power window that goes up slowly o r struggles to close could be caused by a few different issues, including the motor, regulator, o r other factors like dirt o r lack of lubrication. Heres a breakdown of potential causes and what you can do about it:
Motor Issues: If the window motor is starting to fail, it may not be able to lift the window as efficiently, causing it to move slowly. A failing motor might struggle more as the window is raised, especially under load. If you hear the motor running but the window is moving slowly o r inconsistently, the motor could be the issue.
Regulator Problems: The window regulator is the component that physically moves the window up and down. If the regulator is worn o r starting to fail, it could be causing resistance, which slows down the window’s movement. This is a common issue when the window struggles to go up but moves down normally. You may need to remove the door panel to inspect the regulator and see if it’s damaged o r misaligned.
Obstruction o r Dirt in the Window Track: Over time, dirt, debris, o r even a misalignment in the window track can cause resistance and slow down the window’s movement. Check the window tracks for any buildup of grime o r objects that may be obstructing the window’s movement. Cleaning and lubricating the tracks might help improve performance.
Lubrication: Lack of lubrication in the window tracks o r regulator can make the window harder to move. If the window moves slowly only when going up, applying some silicone-based lubricant to the tracks and regulator may help.
Electrical Connections: In some cases, the wiring o r switch may be causing inconsistent power delivery to the motor, which can affect the speed. Check the connections to ensure everything is clean and secure.
Can you fix it yourself?
DIY Repairs: If you’re comfortable working on cars, you can remove the door panel to inspect the motor, regulator, and tracks. Lubricating the tracks o r cleaning out debris may improve the situation. If the motor o r regulator is the problem, you can attempt to replace them, but it can be a bit tricky. Make sure to follow a repair guide for your specific Yaris model if you choose to attempt the fix.
Professional Help: If you’re not comfortable working with electrical components o r mechanical parts in the door, o r if the problem seems more complicated e.g., a failing motor o r regulator, its a good idea to take it to a mechanic. A professional can diagnose the issue quickly and ensure the repair is done correctly.
If its just a matter of lubrication o r cleaning, a DIY fix might be enough. But if its a motor o r regulator issue, professional help may be required.
