Toyota Yaris Steering Noise – What’s Causing It?
Hello all,
I’ve noticed a strange noise coming from the steering column of my Toyota Yaris, especially when I turn the wheel at low speeds. It’s a creaking o r squeaking sound that seems to be getting worse over time.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be an issue with the steering components, o r is it something less serious? What steps should I take to fix it?
Thanks in advance for your help!

If youre hearing a creaking o r squeaking noise from the steering column of your Toyota Yaris, especially at low speeds, here are some possible causes and solutions:
Common Causes & Fixes:
🔹 Dry o r Worn Steering Column Bearings – Lack of lubrication in the steering column can cause squeaking. Applying a suitable lubricant may help.
🔹 Faulty Steering Shaft o r U-Joints – If these components are worn o r misaligned, they can create creaking sounds. A mechanic should inspect them for wear.
🔹 Suspension o r Steering Linkage Issues – Worn-out ball joints, tie rods, o r bushings can lead to noises while turning. Replacing damaged parts should resolve the issue.
🔹 Power Steering System Problems – If your Yaris has a hydraulic power steering system, low o r contaminated fluid might cause noise. Checking and refilling the fluid can help.
🔹 Interior Trim Rubbing Against the Column – Sometimes, plastic trim near the steering wheel can rub and cause squeaking. Adjusting o r lubricating these areas may stop the noise.
Recommended Actions:
✅ Try lubricating the steering column joints.
✅ Check for any visible wear o r looseness in the steering shaft.
✅ Inspect suspension components for wear and replace if necessary.
✅ If the issue persists, consult a mechanic for a detailed diagnosis.
If the noise worsens o r affects steering performance, its best to get it checked by a professional. 🚗🔧
