Toyota Yaris Tire Alignment Issues – How to Fix Uneven Wear?

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently noticed that my Toyota Yaris is experiencing uneven tire tread wear, even though I’ve had the alignment checked recently. The tread is significantly worn on the inside of the tires. I’m wondering if there’s another issue at play, like suspension problems o r driving habits.

Has anyone had this issue with their Yaris? What could be causing this uneven wear, and is there anything I should check to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks for your insights!

Uneven tire tread wear on the inside of the tires, even after checking the alignment, could be caused by a few different issues. Here are some potential causes and steps to consider:

Camber Angle: If the camber angle the tilt of the wheels when viewed from the front o r rear is off, it can cause the tires to wear unevenly on the inside. This may not always be corrected by a standard alignment if the camber is out of specification. A professional alignment check should verify if the camber is within the recommended range.

Suspension Issues: Worn suspension components, such as ball joints, struts, o r control arm bushings, can lead to uneven tire wear. If the suspension is not keeping the wheels properly aligned under different driving conditions, it can cause excessive wear on the inner part of the tires. Have a mechanic inspect the suspension for wear.

Driving Habits: Frequent hard cornering, rapid acceleration, o r aggressive braking can cause uneven wear, particularly on the inside of the tires. If you often make sharp turns o r drive aggressively, it could contribute to this problem. It might help to adjust your driving style to minimize this type of wear.

Tire Pressure: Incorrect tire pressure can also contribute to uneven wear. Ensure that the tire pressure is regularly checked and maintained at the manufacturers recommended level. Under-inflation o r over-inflation can both lead to irregular tread wear.

Wheel Bearings o r Steering Components: Sometimes worn-out wheel bearings o r steering components can affect the alignment and cause uneven tire wear. Its worth getting these parts checked if the alignment and suspension seem fine.

To prevent further uneven wear, make sure the suspension and camber angle are within specification, maintain proper tire pressure, rotate the tires regularly, and consider adjusting your driving habits. If the problem persists, its best to have a mechanic look into it more thoroughly.
