Not recommended and not suggested.

An extra alternator causes a lot of issues especially overheating of the engine.

Find a 2nd hand alternator in good condition and get that installed instead.

have pics but would not post them as I dont want them to be followed by anyone.

Your 69 VW originally came with a dynamo with an external regulator. I dont know if you have a post 1973 alternator fit previously which are considered better given their higher output and thus charging potential.

Alternators came with both internal built in and external regulators. The internal ones are hard to fix as finding spares for them is tricky.

The regulator is a simple piece of equipment. No rocket science in there. I would suggest that you dont get into repairing your current unit and simply replace it. Genuine Bosch units are expensive but last for decades and not years if not messed about with. Or you can buy a aftermarket one if your budget is tight. I guess you can get one within 500 Rs.

I suspect your 'expert' electrician is taking you for a ride by trying to repair your current unit. These people know it may malfunction again and then youd be back at the shop. Rozi chalti rahay gi. Thanks to people like these old cars in general have earned a reputation of being unreliable.

Only consider a repair if you have an original Bosch unit in which case post some pics and then Ill guide you from there.

Best regards.
