Why does my Suzuki Alto make a squeaking noise when I brake? Could it be worn brake pads?

My Suzuki Alto has started making a squeaking o r squealing noise when I apply the brakes, especially at low speeds. Could this be a sign that the brake pads are worn out, o r is there another cause of the noise?

Yes, a squeaking o r squealing noise when braking is often caused by worn-out brake pads, but there are other possible reasons as well:

Worn Brake Pads: The most common cause of squeaking is worn brake pads, especially if the wear indicator has come into contact with the rotor. As the pads wear down, the metal indicator creates the noise to alert you that it’s time for replacement.
Dust o r Debris: Dirt o r small debris trapped between the brake pads and the rotor can cause squeaking sounds. This is usually less of a concern but should still be addressed.
Moisture: Humidity o r water on the brake pads o r rotors can also cause a temporary squeak. This is common in the morning o r during rainy weather and often goes away after a few stops.
Brake Pad Material: Some brake pads, especially metallic ones, tend to make noise when they wear. If you’ve recently had your pads replaced with harder materials, they may produce squeaks.
How to fix it:

Inspect the brake pads: If the squeaking persists o r is accompanied by reduced braking power, check the pads for wear and replace them if necessary.
Clean the brakes: If debris o r moisture is the cause, cleaning the brake components may resolve the issue.
Replace with higher-quality pads: Consider switching to low-noise brake pads if the noise is bothersome.
