Why does my Suzuki Khyber make a clicking sound but not start?
When I turn the key, I hear a clicking noise but the engine doesn’t crank. This happens more often in the morning o r after the car has been parked for a while. Could it be a busted starter motor, o r is it just a battery issue?

A clicking sound when turning the key is one of the most common signs of a starter motor o r electrical issue. In the Suzuki Khyber, especially older models, this usually points to one of the following:
Possible Causes:
Weak o r Dead Battery:
The most common cause. If there’s not enough voltage, the starter solenoid will click but not engage the engine.
Solution: Check battery voltage should be above 12.4V when off. Jump start the car to confirm.
Corroded o r Loose Battery Terminals:
Even with a good battery, poor contact at the terminals can cause this issue.
Solution: Clean terminals and ensure tight connections.
Faulty Starter Solenoid o r Motor:
If the solenoid is clicking but the motor isn’t turning, the internal motor could be jammed o r burned out.
Solution: Tap the starter gently with a metal rod if it starts, it needs replacement soon.
Bad Ground o r Wiring:
Old wiring and poor grounding especially in Pakistani weather can reduce current flow to the starter.
Solution: Check and clean the engine-to-body ground strap and starter wiring.
Tip: If the dash lights dim when trying to start, the issue is likely the battery o r starter drawing too much current.
