Why is my Suzuki Alto’s engine light on due to purge control valve issues?

I’ve noticed that the engine light on my Suzuki Alto has come on recently. After checking, I found that the issue may be related to the purge control valve. What are the most common problems with the purge control valve, and how can I fix it to turn off the engine light? Is this a frequent issue for Alto owners in Pakistan?

The engine light in your Suzuki Alto turning on due to a purge control valve issue typically happens when the vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostics OBD system detects a malfunction in the evaporative emission control system EVAP. The purge control valve is a part of this system, which controls the flow of fuel vapors from the charcoal canister to the engine to be burned off. A faulty valve may cause an issue such as:

Vacuum leaks: If the valve is stuck open, fuel vapors may not be properly evacuated, leading to engine performance issues.
Rich o r lean air-fuel mixture: If the valve doesn’t open when it should, the air-fuel ratio can become off, affecting engine efficiency.
To resolve this issue:

Have the vehicle scanned for error codes using an OBD-II scanner to verify if the purge control valve is the cause.
If the purge valve is confirmed faulty, it may need to be replaced.
After the replacement, reset the engine light and check if it stays off.
