4 Wheeler EVs To Get A Huge Tax Exemption
The Federal Government has recently approved the EV Policy for 4 Wheelers in a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee ECC. The government aims to convert the auto sector of the country to electric vehicles and plans to bring EVs on the road as soon as possible. The government has also decided to establish Electric Vehicle charging stations on the high ways and motorways. The entire motorways structure will be converted to EVs for next two to three years.
For the import and manufacturing the EVs locally, federal government is taking very fast initiatives to make Pakistani auto industry free from heavy gaseous engine vehicles to curb with the various problems like environmental pollution. The federal government, in this regard has raised another positive initiative to bring 4 wheeler EVs to Pakistani market.
Electric Vehicles Policy For 4 Wheelers
The government has officially approved the tax exemption on 4 wheeler EVs. The announcement for exemption of tax was made by the Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Hammad Azhar I his Tweeter post.
The minister also shared the salient features of Electric Vehicle Policy for 4 wheelers as:
Removal of Additional Customs Duty and AST on imports of EV cars
Only 1% tax on import of EV parts for local manufacturers
No Registration and annual renewal fee for EVs in Islamabad
1% sales tax for local made EVs up to 50kwh and light commercial vehicles up to 150 kwh.
Only 1% Duty on import of charging equipment
No Federal Excise Duty FED on Electric Vehicles
Duty free import of plant and machinery for manufacturing of EVs.

Public Transport and Electric Vehicles Charging Stations
The Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Hammad Azhar also briefed about the public transport and installation of the charging stations for EVs. He said that at the initial stage, government will start electric buses in major cities like Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. While talking to media minister said that the largest European bus manufacturing company EGV will manufacture electric buses in Pakistan.
The government also plans to install charging stations in the country, the Pakistan State Oil PSO has already setup an EV charging station in Islamabad. At the inauguration ceremony of the first EV charging station, the Federal Minister for Power and Division Omer Ayub Khan said while talking to media that 24 charging stations will be installed over the country.
